If passengers at Sofia Airport would prefer to use their own bottles they could refill them with water from the taps in the toilets at the departures halls, after the security check, in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The drinking water at Sofia Airport is received from the water-main and is of very good quality.
Using repeatedly one’s own bottle for water instead of buying single use plastic bottles is a really good way to reduce the plastic waste.

Airside, downstairs, in terminal 2 you will find a proper water fountain by gate B1, next to the toilets.
#plasticfree #BeatPlasticPollutionThank you very much Adam, literally the only one I could find in the airport. You are a lifesaver <3
#plasticfree #BeatPlasticPollutionFound this in a recent announcement at Veolia website:
“Three new potable water fountains are now available to the passengers travelling through Sofia Airport immediately in the pre-departure area. Two of them are in the departure section at Terminal 2, and one – at Terminal 1.”
#plasticfree #BeatPlasticPollution @SOFIAirportAs of July 2024, they indeed have one in Terminal 1. However, since Bulgaria joined Schengen zone earlier this year, schengen and non-schengen flights (e.g. to the UK or Cyprus) go through different sets of gates that are not connected. The water is available near the gates 1-3, the schengen ones, so if you’re flying to London, there’s no water here for you, since your gates are 4-7 and you cannot reach 1-3 from after the passport control.
#plasticfree #BeatPlasticPollution @SOFIAirportSOFIA’s airport T1 and T2 are a 3rd world country terminals. Why advise passengers to refill their water bottles from the toilets?!?! Are you insane? Regardless whether the water is clean, what stops you from making a water fountain available at these terminals? Is this EU or not?!
